For most teachers that get a teaching job in rural Alaska they won't see their workplace until a few days before inservice or school starts!

This page will take you along the flight path to the

Innoko River School in Shageluk!

There are two main flight routes to Shageluk on what we call the "mail plane" system.

Depending on what the District's calendar looks like you may choose to come to Shageluk before Inservice in McGrath. Everyone in Shageluk likes to meet the new teachers so it's good to come early, before Inservice to give you a chance to settle in.

The route most people take to Shageluk is Anchorage to Aniak and then Aniak to Shageluk.

Two main airlines serve Anchorage to Aniak:

Peninsula Airlines 1-800-448-4226:

and

Frontier Flying Service.1-800-478-6779

The flight from Anchorage to Aniak takes approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes as you fly over Cook Inlet, then the western part of the Alaska Range. If you're lucky you can get a good view of Denali Mountain or sometimes you can even see one of the steaming volcanoes further down the peninsula!

Before you know it, you'll land in Aniak. Sorry, no picture! That will have to be a surprise.

There are many small airlines that serve our villages out of Aniak. Sorry no web sites! The flight directly from Aniak to Shageluk takes about 35 minutes in a single engine 207 aircraft.

Hageland Air (regular mail route):

(907) 675-4272

Tanana Air (regular mail route):

(907) 675-4258
