Language Immersion Camp
September 1999
The purpose of the Language Immersion Camp was to totally
immerse students in the
Deg Xinag Athabaskan language of Shageluk people.

The Language Immersion Camp was funded in part by the Language
Mentor Apprentice program through Tanana Chiefs Incorporated,
by Project Promise of the Iditarod Area School District and the
Alaska Rural Systemic Initiative. Several students from Lime Village
also attended the camp.

Lake grass is used to make grass mats.
The kids had a lot of fun making root baskets, butchering
a fall moose, and tanning a caribou skin.
